Anyone who has a solar installation on their roof can share their electricity with other people
With the entry into force of the Law ( Loi du 9 juin 2023 modifiant la Loi du 1er août 2007 relative à l’organisation du marché de l’électricité ), owners of electricity production plants can now decide not to inject their excess electrical energy directly into the electricity distribution grid, but rather to enter a “Sharing group” and share their electricity with others, i.e. with immediate neighbours or with people who live further away.
For this to work, clear rules are needed, in particular to know:
- how and between whom electricity can be shared;
- how the electricity distribution is calculated within a Sharing group;
- what are the obligations and rights of:
- consumers ;
- operators of production plants;
- electricity distribution grid operators (hereinafter “grid operators”);
- energy communities.
All these rules, rights and obligations are set out in the Articles 8ter and 8quater of the Law (Loi du 9 juin 2023 modifiant la Loi du 1er août 2007 relative à l’organisation du marché de l’électricité).
